Avoid Unnecessary Repetition

It's not just a personal pet peeve of the list manager. Many other subscribers get sick of you folks who are too lazy and inconsiderate to spend a few seconds snipping excess repetition from your replies. Examples:

I wonder if I might make a plea on behalf of those of us on digest? Could y'all please, please *NOT* keep the entire post (and on many occasions multiple posts) in your email when you reply to a message? On digest, this is REALLY hard for me to deal with. If people have the capability, all one need do is select ALL of the post that is extraneous, then DELETE it. We certainly all want to know to what post people are replying, but usually simply including one or two lines from that old post suits that purpose!

P.S. It would also be nice to remind responders to just leave a line or two of the message they are responding to, not reproduce the whole thing!

Doesn't your program let you pick just a small part of the message to which you want to reply. I get sooooooooo tired of getting all of this stuff over and over and over and over and over again.

Subject: Repeating Original Message

Folks, the Listgod should be saying this but hasn't, so I will! Please stop sending back the whole original message when replying to a post. I did not down-load for a couple of days and found I had over 90 messages, which took in excess of 30 minutes to come through my lousy server. Approximately 80% of the content of these messages was repeats of previous messages and thus completely unnecessary. Surely things are better for all concerned if we all take the time to delete what is not required or relevant to the reply. That's my snarl for today!

P.S. If more FOLers would snip only the pertinent bit (e.g., above), as many do, rather than resubmitting a long post, it would mean we all would find it easier to keep up with the digests. To do so easily, just block the desired text, hit Control and C simultaneously, then go to a new message's body and hit Control and V. I think that's pretty universal. Not sure how Macs work.

And a quick personal crusade

I swear to god if I could figure out a way to personally choke the people who reply to messages with the entire content of the first message and often several others attached I would reach through cyber space and grab their necks and shake some virtual sense into 'em. For St. Hubert's sake, PLEZ edit your replies!
